Botox Clinically Shown to Reduce Headaches

September 17th, 2008 · No Comments

Allergan, the maker of Botox, has completed the first round of analysis of its two Phase III clinical trials which are designed to explore the use of Botox for the treatment of chronic migraines.

During the first trial, the results did not show a significant difference in reducing the number of headaches among patients receiving Botox or placebo. The study did show a decrease in the number of headache days. This is the FDA’s preferred efficacy measure. This data shows that those receiving Botox, when compared to those using the placebo, experienced fewer headache days.

Based on the information gained from the first trial, the primary goal of the second study was changed to measure the number of headache days. Patients treated with Botox reported a decrease in the number of headache days and the total number of headaches experienced.
