Psychological Risks of Invasive Surgery Seldom Noted

December 17th, 2008 · No Comments

Many people undergo invasive plastic surgery procedures to combat a negative body image or dissatisfaction with a particular part of their body. What is seldom noted is that invasive plastic surgery frequently increases a person’s dissatisfaction with his or her body and can lead to increased psychological problems.

Many studies note the psychological benefits, most frequently seen in self esteem, and do not mention the psychological risks. These risks are most commonly seen in people who have undergone breast augmentation surgery.

The two most common psychological or emotional risks are anxiety and depression. Some studies now suggest that suicide can be linked to breast augmentation.

For information on maintaining your appearance without invasive surgery, contact the Houston medical spa Dermagenix at 713-662-3376 to discuss your options and to determine the procedures best for you.
