New Study Shows Botox May Prevent Migraines

A recently released study conducted over a period of 6 months shows that Botox may help to prevent migraine headaches. If it does not prevent them, it does at least make them less frequent.

The report in the journal Headache says that Botox had some beneficial effects on measures of migraine frequency. The effects were limited and the treatment did not lower headache pain severity. The people who were given Botox over a placebo had fewer episodes and fewer headache days than the placebo patients. Botox did have a measurable affect on quality-of-life.

The doctors involved in the study feel that Botox may be a useful treatment option for people who have not responded well to regular migraine treatment options.
