A California medical spa has noticed that more and more men are opting to have hair removed by laser treatment. Why the trend has started, no one knows. Some feel that the influence is due to the big screen, the small screen, and print ads. Apparently, smooth is in and men have taken notice.

While the majority of men undergo laser hair removal for aesthetic reasons, many others undergo the procedure for health reasons. Men who are prone to pseudofollicuilitis barbae have the hairs simply removed. The condition is marked by painful, unsightly, ingrown hairs that can lead to infection. Fortunately, the coarse, dark hair that causes the problem is easily treated by laser hair removal.

If you suffer from pseudofollicuilitis barbae or as simply tired of shaving, contact the Houston laser hair removal experts of Dermagenix Medical Spa at 713-776-3376.

He did caution that the procedure need not to be masking another issue.

The results are not immediate as the procedure takes several sessions. It nationally averages around $430 per session. Doctors say that the patient must have an established pattern of hair growth and be of a certain level of maturity.

Mercedes Clemens of Damascus, MD, is a certified massage therapist who has been denied to right to work with her favorite patients - horses. Animal massage practices are regulated by the state, and the state of Maryland recently ordered Clemens to close down her equine massage service, saying that horses can only be treated by certified veterinarians. Clemens is not seeking any kind of compensation, simply the right to practice the craft she loves. Animal massage has become a more popular practice in recent years, sparking public interest in state regulations of this alternative treatment.

For people with sensitive skin, a traditional facial can be uncomfortable and leave unwanted effects, such as skin discoloration or even scarring. A newly developed kind of facial promises to end that problem. First, a diamond-tipped dermabrasion tool is used to exfoliate the skin. The same device vacuums up any dirt or oil, then the skin is gently washed with a botanical facial scrub. This procedure is considered safe for just about anyone, and recommended for people whose skin becomes discolored or injured easily.

A recently released study conducted over a period of 6 months shows that Botox may help to prevent migraine headaches. If it does not prevent them, it does at least make them less frequent.

The report in the journal Headache says that Botox had some beneficial effects on measures of migraine frequency. The effects were limited and the treatment did not lower headache pain severity. The people who were given Botox over a placebo had fewer episodes and fewer headache days than the placebo patients. Botox did have a measurable affect on quality-of-life.

The doctors involved in the study feel that Botox may be a useful treatment option for people who have not responded well to regular migraine treatment options.
